What You Need to Know Before Changing the Boot Logo

Before you proceed with changing the boot logo, there are some important things you need to know and do:

  • Create a full backup or a rescue disk of your Windows 10 system. This is because if anything goes wrong, you may not be able to boot back into Windows. You can use the backup or rescue disk to restore your system in case of any problems.

  • Make sure your Windows 10 is running in UEFI mode, not Legacy BIOS. You can check this by following [these steps]. If your Windows 10 is running in Legacy BIOS, you cannot change the boot logo.

  • Disable the Secure Boot feature in your UEFI settings. Secure Boot prevents unauthorized changes to the boot process, including the boot logo. You can disable Secure Boot by following [these steps].

  • Have the image you want to set as the new boot logo ready and available. The image should be no bigger than 300px x 300px. You cannot use GIFs or transparent images as the boot logo.

  • You need administrative privileges to change the boot logo. You will need to run the HackBGRT tool as an administrator.

How to Change the Boot Logo in Windows 10 Using HackBGRT

Once you have met all the requirements above, you can follow these steps to change the boot logo in Windows 10 using HackBGRT:

  • Download the latest version of HackBGRT from [here]. It is a ZIP file that contains the tool and its documentation.

  • Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your desktop or any other location of your choice.

  • Open the extracted folder and right-click on the setup.exe file. Select Run as administrator from the context menu.

  • A command-line window will open and show some information about your system and UEFI settings. Press the I key on your keyboard to install HackBGRT.

  • The tool will open its config file in Notepad. You can close it without making any changes, as the default settings are fine for most users.

  • The tool will then launch the Paint application with its own default boot logo. Click on the Paste drop-down button and select Paste from.

  • Browse to the location where you have saved the image you want to use as the new boot logo. Select it and click on Open.

  • Edit the image as you wish in Paint. You can resize, crop, rotate, or add text to it. When you are satisfied with the result, click on File > Save. Close Paint.

  • The command-line window will show a confirmation message that HackBGRT is now installed. Close it.

  • Restart your PC and enjoy your new boot logo.

How to Restore the Default Boot Logo in Windows 10

If you want to revert back to the original Windows 10 boot logo, you can remove or disable HackBGRT. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Open the folder where you have extracted HackBGRT and right-click on the setup.exe file. Select Run as administrator from the context menu.

  • A command-line window will open and show some options to remove or disable HackBGRT. Press the R key on your keyboard to remove HackBGRT completely from your system. This will restore the default boot logo.

  • If you want to keep HackBGRT but disable its effect, press the D key on your keyboard instead. This will disable HackBGRT but keep it installed on your system. You can enable it again by running setup.exe and pressing E.

  • The command-line window will show a confirmation message that HackBGRT has been removed or disabled. Close it.

  • Restart your PC and see the default boot logo.
